Why Online Safety Matters for Your Child
The internet is an amazing place for learning, creativity, and connection – but it also comes with risks that children may not recognize. At Wheelwright Lane Primary School, we believe that teaching online safety is just as important as teaching reading and maths. By starting early, we help children build the confidence and skills they need to explore the digital world safely.
Our approach focuses on practical, age-appropriate lessons: how to protect personal information, spot reliable sources, and behave respectfully online. These skills don’t just keep children safe today – they prepare them for a future where technology is part of everyday life.
What is 2BeSafe?
To support this, we use 2BeSafe, an online safety scheme of work published by 2Simple, designed to meet the guidance set out in the Department for Education’s Education for a Connected World framework. This framework outlines eight key areas that equip children and young people for life in a digital world.
2BeSafe provides comprehensive coverage of these requirements for primary schools, starting from Reception through to Year 6. Each objective includes a 15–20 minute session with activities that encourage discussion, deeper thinking, and reflection—raising the profile of online safety across the school. Every session comes with a teaching PowerPoint and easy-to-access resources, saving teachers time while ensuring high-quality delivery.
Together, we can make sure your child enjoys the benefits of being online while staying protected. We encourage parents to join us in this journey by talking about online safety at home and staying informed about the latest digital trends.
