ECO Code

Everyone think green! Save energy by walking or biking to school.

Collaborate – pick up litter, turn off lights and taps.

One planet – reuse, recycle, be resilient and use what you have.

Curiosity about the world – plant something new.

Own the code – be brave! Tell your friends and family.

Determined to make our world better – only buy what you need.

Eat what’s on your plate and waste less food.

We would like to introduce an exciting new project that we are involved in for the coming year and beyond.  Wheelwright Lane have signed up to an Eco-Schools initiative which will help to make a difference to our school and hopefully the wider community.  This will involve us in projects like recycling, reducing waste and developing ecology and sustainability throughout the year.

We have selected a team of Eco-Warriors who will help empower children to lead environmental education and action in our school and community. Some of the activities we will be introducing include exploring climate change through our rainforest topic, classifying animal habitats and plants within the school grounds, building a bug hotel and learning to cook a healthy eco-friendly recipe.

We will also be encouraging other ideas such as helping to reduce energy use and lunchtime waste so please watch out for exciting developments.  We will keep you updated on our progress and initiative as we work towards achieving our Eco-Schools Green Flag Award. Ways you could help at home are by encouraging your child’s interest and look for simple ways to make your home more eco-friendly.

Thank you for your support in this exciting initiative.

National Grid Partnership

We are proud to work in partnership with National Grid, whose support helps to enrich learning across our school. Through this partnership, our children have enjoyed a range of exciting experiences, including visits, workshops, and assemblies. These opportunities help pupils to understand how electricity reaches our homes and schools, while also introducing them to the importance of caring for our environment. Visitors from National Grid have shared their knowledge and experiences, helping to inspire curiosity and broaden children’s understanding of the wider world of work.

Curriculum Links

Our work with National Grid supports learning across the curriculum:·

Science: Children learn about electricity, energy, and renewable sources in a fun and engaging way.·

Geography: Pupils explore how energy use affects our planet and why sustainability is important.·

Design and Technology: Opportunities to think like engineers, solve problems, and design simple solutions.·

PSHE and Careers: Children begin to learn about different jobs and the skills needed for the future.

This partnership helps make learning real and meaningful, encouraging our pupils to ask questions, think creatively, and develop an interest in the world around them
