🤝 Parent Partnership in the Early Years
At Wheelwright Lane, we believe that strong relationships between home and school are the key to helping every child thrive. Parents and carers are children’s first and most important educators, and we value the contributions they make to their child’s learning and development. By working together, we ensure every child feels supported, understood, and valued.
We build positive partnerships in a variety of ways:
🏡 Home Visits
Before children join us, we offer home visits to help them feel comfortable and familiar with their new adults. This special time allows us to understand each child as an individual and begin building warm, trusting relationships with families.
📱 Class Dojo Communication
We use Class Dojo to share photos, messages, reminders and celebrations of learning. This keeps parents connected to daily experiences and provides a quick and easy communication link.
🔗 Padlet Learning Links
Our Padlet platform offers helpful resources, videos, stories, and ideas to support learning at home. It allows families to access information whenever they need it and supports consistency between home and school. Padlet
👩👧👦 Parent Involvement Sessions
Throughout the year, we invite families into Nursery for:
•Stay and play sessions
•Story and craft events
•Workshops linked to the curriculum
•Open classroom days
These opportunities show how children learn through play and give parents ideas to continue learning at home. We greatly value parent contributions during these sessions and the positive impact they have on children’s confidence.
🌍 Links with the Local Community
We work closely with our wider community to enrich children’s experiences. This may include visits from local services, community walks, or joining local celebrations. Parents are encouraged to share their own skills, cultures, and experiences to broaden children’s understanding of the world.
🗣️ Termly Learning Reviews
Each term, parents are invited to meet with staff to discuss progress, celebrate achievements, and agree on next steps. These shared conversations help us ensure each child receives the support they need to thrive.
🚪 Open Door Policy
We operate an open door policy. Parents are always welcome to speak with us about questions, concerns, or successes. We believe open, honest communication leads to the best outcomes for children.
🎉 Celebration Events
We love welcoming families into school to celebrate with us. Events such as performances, seasonal celebrations, and learning showcases give children opportunities to share their achievements proudly. Parent involvement is always appreciated and encouraged.
📚 Library Visits
Children visit our school library twice a week. Parents are also invited to special library events where they can share stories and develop a love of reading alongside their child.
🚌 Trips and Parent Helpers
We offer a range of educational trips throughout the year, and we greatly value parent helpers who join us. Their support helps children feel secure and strengthens our sense of community.
💛 Working Together
By working in partnership with our families—and valuing the unique contribution each parent and carer brings—we create a nurturing, supportive environment where every child can flourish. Together, we give children the best possible start to their early education.
