A Christmas Truce

Friday, 28 November 2014

The Year 4 assembly today was based on this terms work on WW1. Amongst the texts used was the book by Michael Forman called War Game and the Christmas Truce poem by Carol Ann Duffy

The pupils also performed Silent Night in German which they thoroughly enjoyed together with some short role plays. Their diary entries and their newspaper reports were on display – as was a thorough knowledge of that miraculous truce between the trenches, when enemy shook hands with enemy, shared songs, swapped gifts, even played football, and peace found a place in No Man’s Land.

All the pupils spoke clearly and confidently. We hope that the parents were informed and impressed by all the children’s hard work.
