QuadKids at Ash Green School

Wednesday, 21 May 2014

On Monday in the broiling sun Year 3 and Year 4 competed in the QuadKids sports event at Ash Green School. Other schools taking part were Canon Maggs, Bournebrook, and Goodyers End. All the children competed in four events:- the 50metre sprint, standing Jump, Javelin and 400 metre run. They competed against the clock and the school with the most points gained will go through to the finals that will be held at The Pingles.
The four events were run by the Year 9 pupils at Ashgreen as part of their own PE course. We wont know the outcome till later in the week as the computer was playing up and they were unable to tally up the scores.
The pupils enjoyed their afternoon in the sun and the chance to get a bit of exercise.

Allotment visit as part of science week

Wednesday, 21 May 2014

The weather was just right for the visit of year 1 and year 5 to the allotment, it was part of science week. When we arrived we split into two groups, one group helped to clear the weeds from our own little patch of land while Mrs Ford took the other group on a tour of the other allotments to see what was growing. We found sweetcorn, beans, peas, cauliflower, potatoes even some strawberries that were  starting to turn red.

Indian dancing in school!

Friday, 16 May 2014

Year 3 and 4 had an enjoyable morning being taught by Jenny how to perform two Indian dances. When asked all the children were really enthusiastic about the many different movements that they had learnt, with the lightbulb and the bumblebee being two that “were fantastic” said Jayen. They were keen to explain that the term Bollywood is derived from the words Hollywood and Bombay (Mumbai) and loved how “it involved teamwork and interesting hand movements ” said Jack in Year 4.

Thursday, 8 May 2014

After only 6 months of being taught the violin we had all the pupils in year 4 using a fairly advanced skill (which is to use fingers as well as the bow) performing a concert. They played five short pieces in front of an audience of parents and pupils. See our events page for further details. Well done year 4.

Mathletics application updates

Wednesday, 7 May 2014

Over the holiday period we had a number of pupils logging in to the Mathletic site and working hard to improve their maths skills. This week I have upgraded to Adobe Flashplayer 13 in school, it always helps to keep this up to date. On the Ipads there has also been an upgrade to the Mathletics app, which would also be worthwhile doing to ensure access. Any access problems please drop me a line, my email is always on the newletters. Last week we had our third gold certificate awarded, this time to Rajvir in Year 4…this shows that he has worked very hard on twenty occasions this year, gaining more than a 1000 points each time.
